Sometimes I worry about myself
The other day, I saw a headline for an article about a man who had died immediately after finishing a pancake-eating contest. My first thought was, "Ooo, pancakes!" and for a split second, I considered making some.
Then I realised that this was not the first time I'd had this kind of inappropriate response to a news article involving a tragedy.
A couple of years ago, I was watching a news conference about a woman who had gone missing. The police sergeant said, "She was last seen carrying a handbag that looked like this," and held up said handbag.
You guessed it, my knee-jerk reaction was, "What a FABULOUS handbag!" Then I felt terrible.
Am I becoming a sociopath? Please tell me this sort of thing has happened to someone else.
