WHERE I HAVE BEEN

In case you're wondering why it's been a while since I've posted anything here, it's because I've been particularly busy dealing with family things.

My sister, Natalie, has to be rushed to the hospital with severe abdominal pain. There was a lot of back-and-forthing with doctors, none of whom really wanted to take her seriously, until one of them finally opened her up surgically, after which everyone became suddenly apologetic and all of that.

The upshot is that she's going to be in bad shape for what her doctor said was "months or even years."

I flew back to be with her for a few days, and to straighten out some of the things in her life that got dropped, as these things tend to when one is unexpectedly taken out of commission.

I'm never sure what to say when someone asks "How are things with your sister," and the answer isn't "oh, much better."
